Training your puppy with us is simple and enjoyable both for you and your dog. We use reward based methods only, which are kind, effective and supported by animal learning theory and research.
Our approach can be described as "dog-oriented teaching" as we emphasize the fact that not only dogs need to learn how to live in our society but also we should understand and respect their needs.
Best Start in Life – Puppy Primary School
LENGTH: 7 weeks (1 hr a week)
Week 1 – introductory meeting via Zoom, during which we will talk about the most common puppy issues, discuss equipment and training tools, explain the rules of the in-person classes for the following weeks and owners can ask any puppy related questions and seek immediate advice.
Week 2-8 – group outdoor classes in a secured 14 acre private field.
Each class will consist of:
- On lead time
- Off lead time (there are special separate fenced areas for dogs who need a bit more space and privacy during the off lead time)
- Exploratory walks around the field that including recall games, play time and learning to settle.
- Training
- Enrichment and confidence building activities
- Time for questions and discussions (at the end of the class, when the puppies are tired)

Thanks to lockdown all the puppy class exercises have been recorded for the online courses and now the entire online material will be incorporated into our real life classes!
A few days before each meeting you will receive the instructions (both in a written form and pre-recorded demo version) of all the exercises for the upcoming class. This way you can learn about the exercises in your own time and introduce them first to your puppies in the safety of your home, so when we meet in a class environment we can focus on practicing those skills in real life scenarios and trouble shooting. You can have fun with your puppies during the class giving them your full attention rather than spending half of the class time trying to listen to the trainer’s explanations whilst attempting to tame your bored and/or very excited puppy at the same time.
PROGRAM:
People will learn to:
- Communicate clearly with their dogs
- Handle, examine and brush their dogs
- Basic rules of training
- Understand how to transition luring the dog into having him respond to a verbal and/or visual cue without food being present
- Introduce new equipment to the dog in fear free manner
- Play with their dogs and build motivation to training

Dogs will learn to:
- Reflex to name
- Recall (two different cues: Come and This Way)
- Loose lead walking
- Sit down and sit up
- Down
- Drop
- Polite behaviour around food, toys and people
- Patience at feeding time
- Tolerance to gentle restraint
- Going to bed on cue and waiting there until released
- Off (jumping off objects and people)

The Puppy High School
LENGTH: 7 weeks (1 hr a week)
This course is designed for dogs who either graduated from the Dogs & the City Puppy Primary School (the Best Start in Life course) or have received their basic education somewhere else.
It is a group outdoor class, that takes place in a secured 14 acre private field.
Each class will consist of:
- On lead time
- Off lead time (there are special separate fenced areas for dogs who need a bit more space and privacy during the off lead time)
- Exploratory walks around the field that including recall games, play time and learning to settle.
- Training
- Enrichment and confidence building activities
- Time for questions and discussions (at the end of the class, when the puppies are tired)

- Leave (both food and random objects from the floor)

- Staying on bed with distractions
- Ask politely when wanting access to exciting things in the environment
- Approaching distractions on a loose lead
People will also find out how to:
- Use toys in training
- Upgrade food rewards
- Use life rewards
- Clean and drop their dog’s ears
- Trim dog’s nails

2in1 – everything your dog needs to know in one course
LENGTH: 8 weeks (1 hr a week)
This is a special course for all those Covid puppies and young dogs who missed out on the opportunity to attend regular group classes
It is a group outdoor class, that takes place in a secured 14 acre private field.
Each class will consist of:
- On lead time
- Off lead time (there are special separate fenced areas for dogs who need a bit more space and privacy during the off lead time)
- Exploratory walks around the field that including recall games, play time and learning to settle.
- Training

We will adjust the difficulty level and the exercises we practice during the classes to the needs of each individual dog in the group.
Need more practice?
There will be a special 4 weeks post-graduate course at the end of this class available to all the 2in1 participants who just want to take a little bit more time practicing and polishing the skills their dogs have learnt during the classes.

ONE-TO-ONE PUPPY TRAINING
The sessions are held in your house and garden, and your local area (if needed we can go for a walk on the lead around your neighbourhood, off lead to your local park or to a café or a pub).
We can meet regularly or have just one private session if that’s what is required.
Types of private sessions:
- Choosing a puppy – before you get a dog visit, consultation during which I will help you choose the right puppy for your family, from choosing the breed and breeder to choosing and picking up the actual puppy
- Preparing for the arrival of the new puppy – I will come and help you prepare for the arrival of the new family member and set you up for the success to make sure you will start your journey together well
- Puppy Visits – for new puppy owners, to help the puppy settle down in the new home and make sure you get things right straight from the start; I will also consult you on all the issues you may already be having from jumping up, mouthing, chewing to staying at home alone and socialisation
- Obedience training – at any level (from basic to advanced), anything that you find important and useful
- Tailored training – if you only need help with one particular problem
- Behaviour consolations – anything that you may struggle with or are not sure how to handle, like fearfulness around dogs or people, fear at the vet’s office, introducing the new puppy to a cat, another dog or any other family pet, assuring best relationship between the new puppy and the children in the family etc

SPECIAL OFFER – PUPPY STARTER PACK
A block of 5 individual consultations (in person) with unlimited contact via WhatsApp between the meetings for just £200.
- Available to all puppies under 6 months of age at the start of the program
- Program of each session will be tailored to the needs of each individual puppy and his/her family
- During the meetings we can cover anything from obedience training, behavioural problems, the challenges of multiple dog households, building good relationship between the puppy and children, living in harmony with cats and other furry family members… and so on.
- Each consultation included in the offer is 1 hr long
- All 5 sessions must take place within 2 months from the date of the first consultation.
